A bit about us – Simon, Caroline and The Alpaca Company.

We moved to New Zealand from the UK in September 2001. Our first house was on a 1/2 acre block in the beautiful Bay of Plenty.  Although we both worked full time (and still do) we were keen to have animals on the property with us.  Fast forward 3 years to October 2004 and we had already outgrown our first property. It was time to move to a larger property where we could look after 2 goats, 4 cats and our first 3 alpacas.

Shortly after moving to a more suitably sized property and with Christmas being just around the corner we started looking for a selection of high quality, quirky alpaca related gifts for our friends and family back in the UK (share the alpaca love). Unfortunately, we never really found what we were looking for, so, the ‘obvious’ (according to Simon) solution was to start our own giftware company.  After a whirlwind 6 months working with some of New Zealand’s best designers, artists, craftspeople and specialist manufacturers The Alpaca Company was born.

Fast forward another 15 years - we have increased our property size from 5 acres, to 10 acres, to 40 acres and we now have 75 alpacas, 5 dogs, 2 cats and a (very talkative) parrot. We moved from the North Island to Levels Valley, Timaru in the South Island in December 2019 and we are currently investing in the property so we can invite people to interact with the alpacas and browse through our new, soon to be built, shop.

The Alpaca Company range of products continues to grow as does our alpaca herd and we would be proud to introduce you to both.
